We welcome the opportunity to post service notices to the community regarding special and ongoing events, as well as notices from community support groups concerning their activity programs. To ensure that such information is up-to-date, we request that such groups wishing to utilize this service notify us every three months that any ongoing events notices remain active or these notices will be removed from the Community Bulletin Board. Date specific events will run for the duration of the listing request. Our thanks for helping us maintain the most up-to-date information for all concerned.

WHY DO GAY MEN TEST FOR HIV?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

We are conducting a research study to learn more about why gay men test for HIV to help improve testing programs in BC for the gay community.

Your participation is crucial to the success of these programs.

You may be eligible to participate if you are a man and you:

  • Have sex with men
  • Live in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island
  • Are 18 or older
  • Speak English

    Whether you have tested for HIV in the past or not, we are interested in your opinions and concerns about testing.

    You will have the opportunity to participate in a focus group discussion (approx. 90 minutes) or an individual interview (approx. 60 minutes). This will be up to you. An honorarium will be provided.

    I am a graduate student at the University of Victoria in the School of Nursing and a research assistant.
    We are in the second year of a research project called “Older lesbian’s experience of self-disclosure”. We have obtained Federal funding for this research and have ethical approval from the University of Victoria.
    We plan to conduct interviews in rural and remote areas of Vancouver Island in March and would appreciate your assistance. If you or anyone you know is a woman, 60 or older who identifies as a lesbian or gay woman or who has their primary relationships with women please contact me as soon as possible. This study will greatly improve our understanding of the life experience of older lesbians and thus improve all our lives.

  • Run for your Life! - a weekly running group
  • Philosopher's Cafe - a weekly discussion group on different topics
  • A Walk in the Park - family friendly gentle walking group
  • Pamper Yourself - a monthly pampering session for women only
  • Drop in - daily drop in to meet and talk

    NEW PROGRAM: Queer Parents Family Group For Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered/Transexual families
    Join us Saturday afternoons once a month at our group sessions to play, do crafts and share family time in a safe and positive community environment. Parents/families of all ages are welcome. A meaningful opportunity to learn and share our journey through all stages of parenting and building community connections. Please bring a snack to share.
    Group meets monthly, usually the third Saturday from 3:30-5:30pm at the Fairfield Community Place. No charge, no RSVP required (drop-in).
